Matthias K. Boehning delivers thematic sermon for the Season of Creation

The Director of the Sustainability Centre of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), Matthias Böhning, preached a thematic sermon at the beginning of this year’s Season of Creation in the Evangelical Free Church Bonn (EFG Bonn) on Sunday, 5 September 2021. The sermon was titled “A Home for All? Renewing the Oikos of God” in line with the theme of the Season of Creation 2021. The service also marked the start of the “Just People” course in the EFG Bonn, which will last for several weeks. This course was developed by Micah Germany and has since been implemented with great success in numerous congregations in Germany.

The basic bible text for the sermon came from Proverbs 22:1-2; 8-9; 22-23:
1 A good reputation is more precious than great riches, and renown better than silver and gold. 2 Rich and poor meet together; the LORD has made them all. (…) 8 He who sows injustice will reap misfortune, and the rod of his wantonness will come to an end. 9 He who has a kind eye will be blessed, for he gives of his bread to the poor. 22 Do not rob the poor because he is poor, and do not oppress the wretched in the gate; 23 for the LORD will guide their cause, and will rob those who rob them of life.

The WEA Sustainability Centre (WEASC) – the sustainability centre of the World Evangelical Alliance – is actively participating in Season of Creation 2021, based on the conviction that as followers of Christ from around the world, we share a common role and responsibility as stewards of God’s creation. We see that our well-being as human beings is intimately intertwined with the well-being of the rest of creation. We therefore rejoice in the opportunities that the Season of Creation offers to care for our common home and the sisters and brothers who live in it.
